Zheng Zhou (Agenzia Fides) - A Chinese Buddhist monk shares his experience as a pilgrim in India and his great personal devotion to Saint Teresa of Calcutta, and shows the medal of the Saint, blessed on the day of her canonization in St. Peter’s square to the young Chinese Catholics: this happened during the interreligious meeting in the parish of the Sacred Heart of the diocese of Zheng Zhou, in the province of He Nan. The initiative is part of the parish Lenten journey, marked by interreligious dialogue in the parish Year of spirituality. According to information sent to Fides, on the evening of March 25 the youth group of the parish hosted monk Kuan Yan and his disciples for a "spiritual exchange, for young people to improve and grow spiritually", as parish priest, don Liu Jiang Dong explained.
With great emotion, the monk described his pilgrimage in India and his "admiration for the Saint who dedicated everything to the poor". According to the monk "all religions teach what is good, put the person at the center, preach charity, mercy and philanthropy. Both Buddhist monks and Catholic priests entrusted their lives and the future to the young, wishing a solid spiritual life for them, marked by prayer and works of charity, so that others can learn about religion".
The parish of the Sacred Heart is a very active community, with initiatives for the youth (spiritual and vocational formation), catechism, evangelization, social service (free medical visits), works of charity (for the elderly, the disabled, the sick). 2017 has been proclaimed "Year of Spirituality" inviting everyone to "open their hearts to the Church" and the second Sunday of Lent was dedicated especially to the young. As pointed out by the pastor, "we want to live in a concrete harmonious community life, eliminating all obstacles.
