Rio de Janeiro (Agenzia Fides) - According to a recent research published by the Abrinq Foundation, an NGO which promotes the defense of the rights of children and adolescents, reports that in 2015, 2 million and 600,000 working children in the age group between 5 and 17 were registered in Brazil. The study, entitled "Childhood and Adolescence Scenario 2017", also reveals that 5 million 800 thousand Brazilian children between 0 to 14 years of age live in extreme poverty, with a per capita family income of less than $ 65.
According to Abrinq, there was an increase of 8,500 working children in 2015 between 5 and 9 years of age compared to 2014, although a decrease of 659,000 children and adolescents between 10 and 17 years of age was registered. The northeastern region of the country, the poorest, and that of the southeast, the richest, are those where the highest concentration of working children was recorded.
