AMERICA/PERU - Thousands gather for first Eucharistic Congress in Tarma diocese on the theme “Eucharist, Epiphany of Diocesan Communion”

Tarma (Fides Service) - Thousands of people including bishops, priests, religious, seminarians, catechists and lay parish delegates are taking part in first Eucharistic Congress in Tarma diocese on the interesting and demanding theme “Eucharist, Epiphany of Diocesan Communion”. A solemn Mass in Tarma cathedral presided by the Bishop Richard Daniel Alarcón opened on Thursday 17 November the work of the Congress which has the following objectives: recognised in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist the centre of the ecclesial community; celebrate Sunday Mass with due dignity, encouraging active participation and rejoicing and a sense of community; promote adoration of the Eucharist outside of Mass, at the school of Mary, Woman of the Eucharist; assume new commitments for mission and solidarity as fruits of personal and community Eucharistic experience.
The programme of the Congress which ends on Sunday 20 November includes conferences on two themes: “Eucharist and Sunday”; “Eucharist, Mary Eucharistic Adoration”. After the conferences the participants will form groups to identify pastoral suggestions to present to the plenary assembly. Today Saturday there will be a panel discussion on “Eucharist and Mission”. Sunday 20 November solemn Mass to close the Congress at the Manuel A Odria sports hall presided by Archbishop Rino Passigato, papal nuncio in Peru followed by a procession with the Blessed Sacrament from to the Cathedral where there will be Benediction.
