Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) – On Monday, March 27 the agreement for the implementation of the San Silvestro agreements will be signed to give the DRC a national unity government to prepare legislative and presidential elections within a year.
This was announced by His Exc. Mgr. Fridolin Ambongo, Archbishop of Mbandaka-Bikoro and Vice President of CENCO, the Congolese Bishops' Conference that mediates between the majority and opposition.
"We did a good job", said Mgr. Ambongo after the meeting which was held yesterday, March 20, in the interdiocesan center of Kinshasa. "We have addressed most of the issues on the agenda. We have made proposals on the issue of the Presidency and we have invited the parties to reflect".
After the death of Tshisekedi, some opposition parties which do not fall within the Union, have asked to renegotiate this position. In order to settle the issue Mgr. Ambongo announced that tomorrow there will be a new meeting.
The other point in discussion concerns the method of the Prime Minister’s appointment. The presidential majority wants the Premier to be chosen from a list of three submitted by the Union; the latter replies that it wants to present a single name. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 21/03/2017)
