Tijuana (Agenzia Fides) - A group of seven minor Haitians has been integrated into the educational system of Baja California. This is what the coordinator of the Binational Migrant Education Programme said in a note sent to Fides, in particular active in Tijuana and Mexicali, where a kind of Little Haiti was born.
Four children were enrolled in primary school, two in secondary school and a child at kindergarten. Currently, about 60 minor Haitians have the opportunity to integrate into the education system in Baja California, and families have decided to stop in Tijuana and Mexicali. Children are asked for their birth certificate, and if they do not have it, a card with their name, that of their parents, date of birth and parents' signature, is also accepted. Currently there are 54,000 children registered as foreigners in the educational system, 33,000 of these in Tijuana. With Haitians, as well as with the Chinese or American children, who are already part of the state education system, the real challenge is the language. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 17/03/2017)
