ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - “The freshness of the Word: the living and abiding Word of God”: 2005 Bible Week message

Friday, 18 November 2005

Seoul (Fides Service) - “The freshness of the Word: the living and abiding Word of God” was the title of a message issued by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the annual Bible Week in South Korea, held at the end of November and celebrated in dioceses all over the country. The message was signed by Bishop John Chrysostom Kwon Hyeok-ju, president of the Bishops’ Biblical Commission who said he hoped Korean Catholics will become ever more familiar with Sacred Scripture.
The Bishop said he hoped the faithful would draw new vigour in the faith from meeting Christ in the Word of God and encouraged every Christian to read and contemplate the Word of God a source of faith, hope and strength for life in the world. Remarking on the recent publication of the new Bible in the Korean language the Bishop said the new translation, fruit of 17 years of labour, might be a little unfamiliar but Catholics should make it their mission to read and contemplate the New Korean Bible because the freshness of the translation would help them experience the freshness of the Word all over again.
Bible Week is a traditional time for believers to read and meditate a Bible passage every day The Word of God must become a point of reference for Christians living in a context of religious and cultural relativism.
