Washington (Agenzia Fides) - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) Rights notified the Pan Amazon Network Ecclesial (REPAM), the convocation of the num.161 ordinary hearing to discuss issues related to the right of the land of indigenous peoples and of the Amazon communities. The hearing will be held on March 17, 2017 at its headquarters in Washington, according to a letter sent by Elizabeth Abi Mershed, Deputy Executive Secretary of the IACHR.
This action is part of a broader program related to human rights proposed by REPAM, which presents thirteen cases of defense of the territory in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.
Four experiences that reflect the great challenges that the Pan Amazon region faces, regarding situations of violation of the right to the territory, will be presented to the IACHR. Mgr. Pedro Barreto, vice president of REPAM will be present in this session.
Among the experiences that involve difficult situations, REPAM highlights those related to the Buriticupu rural community, the Tundayme indigenous communities, the Tagaeri Indigenous and Taromenani Peoples and the community of Yurimaguas. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 02/03/2017)
