Friday, 24 February 2017

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - The Military Bishop, His Exc. Mgr. Fabio Suescun Mutis, went to hospital to visit the members of the police who were injured in the explosion in the district of La Macarena, in Bogota, on 19 February. The Prelate, after condemning these events, encouraged the police force and their families, and prayed for Albeiro Garibello Alvarado, who died yesterday because of multiple injuries.
Mgr. Suescun Mutis urged National Police members, members of the Armed Forces, and society in general, to join in prayer so that these violent acts are not repeated, as informs the note of the Colombian Bishops' Conference sent Fides.
The Director General of the Police, General Jorge Hernando Nieto, said yesterday that investigations will not stop until the perpetrators of this crime are found.
According to local press reports, the explosion that caused the injury of 30 people, including many policemen, seems to be in connection with other criminal acts of this kind. Public opinion is divided in believing that this is a terrorist attack, but everything suggests that the police were the main target. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 24/02/2017)
