El Alto (Agenzia Fides) - Virgen Niña, is the only integral center for disabled children which is located in El Alto, in the Los Andes area. Promoted by the homonymous Virgen Niña Association, the center was launched 23 years ago at the initiative of an Italian nun and is present today in the Don Bosco schools in the area. Disabled children come to the center with severe nutritional problems. It initially functioned as a center of integral support, then, given the need to provide education, it became a school, attended by children from six months of age up to 12 years.
According to information sent to Fides, the little ones arrive in the morning at 8.30 am and leave at 4.30 pm, have breakfast, lunch and a snack. On the morning they attend courses at a special school. Every week they have two physical therapy sessions, two psychomotor, hydrotherapy, and, every 15 days a speech therapy. The motto of the center is "a dignified life for life". (AP) (Agenzia Fides 23/02/2017)
