VATICAN - Official inauguration of Master’s Degree in Management for Development for young African university graduates promoted by the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples in collaboration with the Catholic University Sacro Cuore

Vatican City (Fides Service) - This morning at the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples in Rome a new Master’s Degree in Management for Development for young African university graduates promoted by the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples in collaboration with the Catholic University Sacro Cuore was officially launched. The 17 students, who come from Sudan, Ghana, Seychelles, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso were selected by the respective national Bishops’ Conferences. Present for the ceremony Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples; Professor Lorenzo Ornaghi rector of Sacro Cuore University; Professor Mario Molteni director of the course. Besides the 17 fortunate students from Africa, there were also prominent members of the academic and ecclesial world, a number of African ambassadors, representatives of Missionary Institutes and the sector of cooperation and development.
The initiative is promoted by the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples which sees in the formation of future cadres profoundly rooted in Christian culture a major contribution the Church can make for the development of peoples. The course is planned and organised by ALTIS (Alta Scuola Impresa e Società, dell'Università Cattolica di Milano) in collaboration with the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. The Master’s degree will form these young men who in future can promote the development of their region or work in non profit organisations (schools, professional training, healthcare, social work, parishes etc).) as directors; they can also help people start small business for profit and non profit, or work in public administration helping to plan and implement development policies in the economic and social context.
The students will study and stay at Mater Ecclesiae College in Castelgandolfo (Rome) run by the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples. The college has been restructured for the occasion with 80 bedrooms bathroom en suite, classrooms, rooms for discussion, a library, computer room, as well as rooms for guest teachers. (S.L.)
