Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - The best way to protect Christians in the Middle East consists in the "eradication of radical Islam", while we must avoid policies that encourage the exodus of Middle Eastern Christians from their lands. These are the key concepts so far expressed about the condition of Middle Eastern Christian communities from Marine Le Pen, during the two-day visit that the candidate of the National Front is carrying out in Lebanon. Yesterday, after meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gibran Basil, Marine Le Pen, in some statements relaunched by the local press, counterposed her assessments on the protection of Middle Eastern Christians regarding her political choices attributed to former President Nicolas Sarkozy, who in his opinion urged Middle Eastern Christians "to leave their country and live abroad as refugees. "In my opinion, added Le Pen "this is a dangerous vision for the Christians of the Middle East, and it is not what I want. I want the Christians of the Middle East to live in peace and serenity in their Countries".
This morning, Tuesday, February 21, Marine Le Pen canceled a meeting with Lebanon's Grand Mufti, Abdel Latif Derian, after refusing to wear a headscarf for the occasion.
The Grand Mufti's press office said that her aides had told her prior to the meeting that they required her to wear a head covering for the meeting. Shortly after she arrived at his office, one of his aides tried to give her a headscarf to put on but she refused to wear it.
According to Agenzia Fides, on Tuesday morning, February 21, Marine Le Pen was also received by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rai, at the patriarchal seat in Bkerké. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 21/02/2017)
