AFRICA/ZIMBABWE - Resignation of the Bishop of Gokwe, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 28 January 2017 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Gokwe, Zimbabwe, presented by His Exc. Mgr. Angel Floro Martínez, I.E.M.E. The Holy Father appointed rev. Rudolf Nyandoro, chancellor of the Diocese of Masvingo, as Bishop of Gokwe.
Rev. Rudolf Nyandoro was born on 11 October 1968 in Gweru, then Diocese of Gwelo. After primary school, he entered the Minor Seminary of Chikwingwizha. He followed philosophical courses from 1991 to 1994 at the St. Charles Lwanga Major Seminary, in Chimanimani, in the Diocese of Mutare. Later, he was sent to Chishawasha Major Seminary, in the Archdiocese of Harare, to complete his theological studies. He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1998 for the Diocese of Masvingo.
He has served the following roles: assistant priest in Mukaru Mission in 1999 and from 2000 to 2006 Director of the Cathedral. He was Rector of the Minor Seminary from 2007-2009 and Rector of Bondolfi Teachers' College from 2010 to 2015. He earned a PhD in Pastoral Counselling in 2015 at the University of South Africa. Since 2015 he has been the Chancellor of the Diocese of Masvingo and Professor at Bondolfi Teachers' College. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 30/01/2017)
