Ankara (Agenzia Fides) - The Armenian deputy of the Turkish Parliament Garo Paylan, representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (HDP, opposition party that unites pro-Kurdish forces and leftist forces) on January 13 was suspended for three parliamentary sessions after referring to the Armenian Genocide, during the plenary debate on the subject of the new Turkish Constitution.
In his speech, according to Anadolu Agency - the deputy cited the period in which, since 1913, Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks and Jews present in the Anatolian Peninsula were "banished from these lands or subjected to violence,to the point of suffering massacres and genocide". The Armenian people - stressed Paylan "know very well what happened .... I call it genocide, whatever way you define it".
Paylan’s speech caused the resentful reactions of AKP deputies, the ruling party, who requested and were granted the disciplinary measure taken against the Armenian deputy. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 16/01/2017)
