Quito (Agenzia Fides) – The Don Bosco and the Salesians projects, identified as foundations, support atypical families in Ecuador in which children are forced to work. In 2016, in Tungurahua, 200 children were welcomed at the soup kitchen of the Don Bosco Project which earned the economic support of Ambato City Hall. The Salesians, together with the Ministry for Social and Economic Inclusion (MIES), assisted 32 children belonging to families of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PPL), 180 children of the program of Eradication of Child Labour (ETI) and 20 children and adolescents of some institutions. In 2001, according to results of a study on child labor carried out by UNICEF and the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), the rate of adolescent workers, between 5 and 17 years of age, was 20.7% in 2013 fell to 4.9%.
