Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - A new report by the UN Panel of Experts on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was applauded by an NGO of North Kivu, the eastern province of the DRC, where there are illegal activities denounced by the document presented to the UN Security Council.
"We welcome the fact that the Expert Group gave proof to improve research and to diversify sources (compared to previous reports)", said the statement, sent to Fides, by the Study Centre for the promotion of peace, democracy and human rights (CEPADHO) of Beni.
"CEPADHO shares the analysis of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and stresses the need on behalf of the Congolese armed forces and MONUSCO (UN Mission in the DRC) to neutralize these rebel Rwandans definitively" the statement said.
The only findings presented by CEPADHO concern the failure to qualify members of the ADF (a group of Ugandan origin who for years has been harassing the population of Butembo-Beni) as "terrorists" and the silence of the UN on the presence in Rwanda and Uganda of former M23 rebels in violation of earlier agreements.
The UN report also denounces tthe illegal exploitation of Congolese riches by various local armed groups, other States and foreign companies. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 10/01/2017)
