Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - The negotiations under the auspices of the Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) "proceed well" says the ''Union of the political and social forces for change", better known as "le Rassemblement", the coalition of opposition parties in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). "Le Rassemblement" did not adhere to the agreement with the presidential majority on 18 October (see Fides 18/10/2016), but is engaged in talks under the auspices of the Bishops to find a way out of the institutional political crisis, since the holding of the presidential elections due by the end of this year proved to be impossible.
In a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, "Le Rassemblement" demands that the Premier of the transition period "is to be designated by our political group, and in case to be dismissed by us".
The statement emphasizes that the work of the Committee, which under the mediation of the Bishops is preparing to get the DRC out of the crisis, will end on December 15. On December 19 the second term of President Joseph Kabila expires, who cannot run for re-election to obtain a third term. The leader of "Le Rassemblement", Etienne Tshisekedi, "will give a speech a few days before December 19, and will launch an appeal to the population so that it remains vigilant. (L.M.)
