Accra (Agenzia Fides) - The victory of the opposition candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the first round of the presidential and parliamentary elections that were held in Ghana on December 7 seems certain (see Fides 07/12/2016). The Country is waiting for the announcement of the election results. According to local sources of Fides, voting started at 7am in the morning in most pulling stations Agenzia Fides visited. Some also started a little over the 7am claiming that the pulling agents of the various political parties wanted to be sure of the materials and arrangements for the voting. Voting was generally peaceful in the Greater Accra Region. However, there was some misunderstanding in some of the constituency in the country where it was alleged that extra ballot cast where presented in the Tamale Constituency, in the Northern Region for counting, “machomen” intimidating voters in one pulling station in the Tema Central Constituency, in the Greater Accra Region and the Electoral Commission postponing voting in the Jaman North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo to today 8th December due to a discrepancy with the voters register.
