Xian Xian (Agenzia Fides) - "Healing the physical and spiritual health of the elderly" with the works of mercy: the parish of Wu Qiao dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, located in the Diocese of Cang Zhou (Xian Xian ) of He Bei province in mainland China, celebrated its patron saint, on December 3 in this way.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, the parish provided free medical consultation to about 150 elderly people, Catholics and non-Catholics, in collaboration with the diocesan foundation of social service "Heart to Heart". Together with doctors, 3 young priests, five nuns and lay volunteers welcomed and assisted the elderly. After lunch they celebrated Mass for the elderly Catholics.
In these years the parish has always celebrated its Patron, the great missionary St. Francis Xavier, with concrete sign of witness and evangelization, giving special attention to the elderly. Last year a free eye and dental check-up was offered, and every year a specific health care is proposed, including a prevention course of Alzheimer's disease.
The diocese of Xian Xian was the old Apostolic Vicariate of Southeast-Tcheli. Today it has about 75,000 faithful, 206 churches and chapels, almost 100 priests. Every year there are over one hundred baptisms. The parish of Wu Qiao is a vibrant community, in which the laity are very present and active. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 07/12/2016)
