ASIA/SRI LANKA - Appointment of the Rector of the National Seminary "Our Lady of Lanka" in Kandi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 25 July 2016 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Jayakody Arachchige Don Mervyn Expeditus, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Colombo as Rector of the National Seminary "Our Lady of Lanka" in the diocese of Kandi in Sri Lanka.
The new Rector was born on January 18, 1963 in Pamunugama, Sri Lanka, and was ordained a priest on 27 July 1989. After attending St. Aloysius Seminary in Borella and the Intermediate Seminary in Kalutara, he studied philosophy and theology at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, and earned a licentiate in dogmatic theology in Rome. Since his ordination he carried out his pastoral ministry in the parish, he was Fidei donum in the diocese of Kandy, diocesan chaplain of young students, coordinator of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, spiritual Director and Rector of the Daham Sevena Seminary in Kalutara. Since 2011 he was a staff member and Dean of theology at the National Seminary in Ampitiya. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/11/2016)
