Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "We must be compassionate towards one another so that peace prevails in our society", said His Exc. Mgr. Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, in South Sudan, at the closing ceremony of the Holy Year of Mercy that had a special meaning in this Country, since December 2013 devastated by civil war.
In a note sent to Agenzia Fides, Fr. Bazia Boro Elario Zambakari, director of Radio Anisa, says that thousands of priests, religious men and women and faithful attended yesterday's solemn celebration during which the closing ceremony of the Holy Door took place.
"Tombura-Yambio is one of the dioceses of Southern Sudan where violence broke out as early as 2013, two years after independence, between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir Mayardit and those loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar", said Fr. Zambakari.
"The latest attack, which dates back to 10 November, resulted in thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees who crossed the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic in search of security" concludes the director of Radio Anisa.
