Cúcuta (Agenzia Fides) - The popular protest for the abduction of Maria Gloria Contreras, 61, kidnapped while she was in her house, in the town of Chinacota in the north of Santander increases by the hour. "Kidnapping is abominable, it is a serious crime! I would like to say a word of encouragement to this person’s family: have trust in the authorities and wait for her release, which we hope happens soon", said the Bishop of the Diocese of Cúcuta , His Exc. Mgr. Víctor Manuel Ochoa Cadavid.
The note sent to Fides by Radio Caracol informs that, so far, no armed group has claimed responsibility, the authorities do not exclude the fact that crime has moved to this area from the eastern part of the department.
Mgr. Ochoa also expressed concern for the delicate situation of public order that is being lived in the last hours in the north of Santander: in addition to this kidnapping in fact there was a massacre at the border and terrorist actions against the police, in which two soldiers were killed.
"This phenomenon of violence, which increases, is becoming very complex, because in addition to the kidnapping, what is happening in the neighborhoods of Cúcuta is worrying due to drug trafficking, it is a very delicate situation, we urge the authorities to take control of this situation with great responsibility, because this is a reflection of the economic and social situation in our city", concluded the Bishop.
