Jerusalem (Agenzia Fides) - It is a structure that wants to witness the commitment and contribution of Catholic faithful with regards to the issue of immigration, which has tragic social consequences, especially for children: this is the spirit of the "Rachel Centre" in Jerusalem, dedicated to the care of children, which on Thursday, November 10 will be visited and blessed by Mgr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The Centre welcomes children and young people from migrant families during the day.
It was opened on September 1 by the Saint Jacques Vicariate, for Hebrew-speaking Catholics. The Centre is located at no. 15 Pinsker Street in Jerusalem's Talbieh neighborhood.
The structure provides qualified medical care, food and education for babies and children of immigrants in Israel. While immigrant parents work, in fact, children are often kept in unauthorized structures, managed by staff without any professional skills, where they live in unhealthy conditions and are often victims of abuse. The Centre dedicated to saint Rachel is located in a structure owned by the Capuchin Convent in Jerusalem and, thanks to educators and volunteers, takes care of children with after-school activities and recreational activities.
