Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - The economic and social emergencies that mark the present situation of Lebanon does not allow any delays or postponement in the formation of a government that would help the Country. This is what was strongly emphasized by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai Bouutros, during his homily yesterday, Sunday, November 6, six days after the election of former general Michel Aoun for the office of President of the Lebanese Republic, vacant for almost two years and a half.
During the homily - refer sources of the Maronite Patriarchate, consulted by Agenzia Fides - Patriarch Rai recalled the many times in which the Church had prayed to the Almighty so that the political leaders of the opposing sides were enlightened and would bring to an end the presidential vacatio that caused the deadlock of the whole, delicate Lebanese institutional system. "Now", said the Primate of the Maronite Church, "we raise again our prayer to God, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, so that the Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri succeeds in forming a government as soon as possible", given that "the economic and living conditions, the need to take care of the development and security of the country do not allow delays or postponements".
Patriarch Rai also invoked a prayer for the battered Middle East, so that leaders can "stop the destructive wars in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and elsewhere, and to conduct serious negotiations to find "political solutions to the conflicts.
Former general Michel Aoun, who was elected new President of Lebanon last October 31 after two and two and a half years of presidential "vacuum", on Thursday, November 3 entrusted to Sunni leader Saad Hariri, leader of the "Future" political party, the task to form a new government. The rapid transfer of the mandate to the new Prime Minister-designate represents a confirmation in the "new course" embarked by the Lebanese national politics, paralyzed for a long time because of the vetoes between the parties related to the different ethnic and religious components of the Country of the cedars.
