Panama (Agenzia Fides) - "Who brings home money earned through corruption feeds their children with poisoned bread", are the harsh words of the Archbishop of Panama, His Exc. Mgr. José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta, O.S.A. during the celebration of the Te Deum on the occasion of the national holiday in Panama.
As Fides learns, before the President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, and all authorities, Mgr. Ulloa denounced the corruption and lack of transparency that prevails in the country.
"We all have to apply ethics to politics. We must put a stop to corruption", he said in a loud, clear voice. "We cannot ignore it, or look elsewhere, ignoring the responsibility to generate changes that the country needs", he continued.
According to the note sent to Fides the Bishop pointed out: "Who pays for corruption? The poor. Hospitals without medicine, the sick without care, children without education. The country is not a business but a legacy to care for and serve". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 05/11/2016)
