ASIA/PHILIPPINES - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Princesa, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 28 October 2016, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa (Philippines), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Pedro D. Arigo. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. Socrates Mesiona, M.S.P., National Director of the PP.OO.MM in the Philippines and Member of C.E.P., former Superior General of the Mission Society of the Philippines, as Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Princesa. He was assigned the titular see of Budva.
Rev. Fr. Socrates Mesiona, M.S.P., was born on September 17, 1963 in Tagbilaran, Bohol. From 1980 to 1984 he studied Philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary and, from 1984 to 1989, Theology at the Divine Word School of Theology. From 1994 to 1996 he was a student of Missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, earning a Licentiate. He was ordained a priest on 14 April 1989, as a member of the Mission Society of the Philppines. Since his ordination he has served the following academic and pastoral roles: 1989-1991: School Director of Fil-mission Seminary; 1991-1994: Parish priest of the Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish, Madaluyong City; 1994-1996: Studies in Rome; 1996-1999: Rector of the Fil-mission Seminary, Tagaytay City; 1999-2004: General Treasurer and Member of the Council M.S.P .; 2004-2009: Superior General of the M.S.P; 2009: National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
