Cordoba (Agenzia Fides) - The meeting of the Bishops of southern Spain, which includes the dioceses of Seville, Granada, Almería, Cádiz and Ceuta, Córdoba, Guadix, Huelva, Jaen, Malaga and Jerez ended in Cordoba (Spain). The meeting was held on 25 and 26 October.
The Bishops issued a brief statement to inform on the issues discussed. The first point concerns the report of Caritas Andaluza which describes the activities of the year 2015: the resources of the dioceses were invested in reception and assistance programs for homeless people, elderly people who need care, immigrants, unemployed. Last year the number of people who were helped increased considerably. Caritas nevertheless continued with the already established programs: children, families, disabled, international co-operation in emergency situations.
During the meeting it was decided that the Andalusian dioceses will make a donation, through regional Caritas, to help in the emergency in Haiti, after Hurricane Matthew. As a final point, the Bishops gave their approval for the opening of two causes of canonization, regarding the Servant of God Carmen Nebot Soldan, of the Diocese of Huelva, and father Joaquin Reina Castrillón, Sj, of the Diocese of Almería, founder of the Servants of the Poor.
