Cancun (Agenzia Fides) – The Major Seminary of Quintana Roo was inaugurated yesterday by His Exc. Mgr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cardenas, Bishop of the Prelature of Cancún-Chetumal, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. With a solemn Eucharistic concelebration, attended by local authorities and the Bishops of neighboring dioceses, as well as a hundred priests, the opening ribbon of the new Seminary was cut.
"It is a day of great joy, because finally we have the most important work of a local Church which is the seminary. Seminary means 'place of the seed', where seminarians will grow, bloom and bear fruit in God’s garden. We were expecting 15 seminarians, but then 47 arrived!
We are overcrowded, rooms are not enough and we had to adapt a classroom as a bedroom", said Mgr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas.
According to the note sent to Fides, the Seminary is dedicated to San Rafael Guízar and Valencia and to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Currently only 33% of the construction has been finished. Once it is completed, it will house a hundred seminarians, it will have a chapel in the center, sports courts, dining room, swimming pool, auditorium. The second phase of the work will cost about 24 million pesos. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 25/10/2016)
