AMERICA/VENEZUELA - First agreement between government and opposition: dialogue begins, the Church as mediator

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - The Archbishop of Caracas, Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, said that the dialogue that will begin between the government and the opposition "is very good", and reported that the envoy of the Vatican, Archbishop Emil Paul Tscherrig, apostolic Nuncio in Argentina, "is very pleased" for having established the beginning of dialogue.
"The Archbishop is very happy, because he made the first step - said the Cardinal talking yesterday to Union Radio -, that is, to reconcile the representatives of the government and opposition parties on the issues, methodology and timetable of dialogue, on the basis of exploratory meetings".
According to information sent to Fides, Cardinal Urosa Savino said that the visit of President Nicolas Maduro to Pope Francis, which took place yesterday afternoon, "is very good", because in his view, His Holiness, "surely asked him: to do everything in his power to resolve the problems we are facing".
