Perth (Agenzia Fides) - The relics of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina arrive in Australia and will be exposed to the devotion of the faithful in St. Mary's Cathedral Perth from October 22 to 26. This was confirmed by Mgr. Michael Keating, pastor of the Cathedral, the relics include a pair of gloves, hair, a linen cloth used to clean the blood from his wound. He was canonized by John Paul II in 2002. The relics are encapsulated in a special showcase. For the occasion, celebrations are being planned like the ritual of the anointing of the sick, prayer vigils and adoration
"It will be a very important occasion not only for Catholics throughout Perth, but for all the faithful interested in the life of Padre Pio" said Bishop Keating, who met Padre Pio in 1965, when he visited the town of San Giovanni Rotondo where the Capuchin friar lived. "For many people, this will be an opportunity to experience and learn from the faith of Padre Pio".
Capuchin friar Fr. GianMaria Di Giorgio, of the Capuchin convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia) will accompany the relics. He was also a pupil of Padre Pio, and, as a seminarian, he was accompanied on his spiritual journey by the Saint. Fr. GianMaria will talk to the Australian faithful of the life and faith of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 19/10/2016)
