San Luis Potosi (Agenzia Fides) - Last week three cases of missing women were reported which provoked the reaction of an association for the defense of women's rights and the intervention of the Archbishop of San Luis Potosi, His Exc. Mgr. Jesús Carlos Cabrero Romero: one was found dead on highway 57, the second was killed by her husband, while we do not have any news about Cinthia Paola Castro Rodriguez.
Mgr. Cabrero Romero accused the misinformation by the authorities with regard to these cases, which shows the lack of coordination and interest on their part to investigate, said the Archbishop on Sunday, after Mass. "If there are complaints and demonstrations on behalf of the relatives of these women, it means that something is true, they are true cases. These cases exist and are real cases", reiterated Mgr. Cabrero Romero.
Authorities must look into these cases, he continued, concluding with these words: "As a Church we welcome the tears of family members and the despair of those who do not find a relative. Woman is an essential part of family life and society".
In San Luis Potosi, according to data collected by Fides, we do not know exactly the total number of missing women or victims of femicide, however, according to information made public by the State Commission of Human Rights (CEDU), in November 2015, more than 175 women disappeared and/or murdered in the past three years.
A local association for the defense of women asked to thoroughly investigate these cases, because many times it has to do with the "recruitment of young women who refuse to join criminal or trafficking networks and then are killed". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 18/10/2016)
