Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - The error of a Congolese military caused the death of four people when the rocket fired by him hit the Mwamba institute, in the municipality of Bulengera, in the city of Butembo in North Kivu Province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. According to a statement from CEPADHO (a local NGO for the defense of human rights) sent to Agenzia Fides, the fact occurred on October 15, when after a raid "of the followers of the political-military sect Corps du Christ ( of pastor David Marata), the armed forces seemed to be confused".
According to the NGO, "in the confusion a military launched a rocket that hit the school, killing four people, two of whom are teachers, and wounding two students". Even a military and a follower of the sect, were killed shortly before in an attempt to disarm and disperse the followers of the Corps du Christ from their location on Mount Carmel, on the outskirts of Butembo.
The sect of the Corps du Christ preaches the end of the world and forbids its followers to seek treatment in modern hospitals and to send their children to school. For years it erected its "temple" on Mount Carmel, the only place of pilgrimage for local Catholics, arousing the disapproval of the population. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 17/10/2016)
