Temuco (Agenzia Fides) - Concrete and specific decisions to address the facts of violence that occur Araucanía should be taken said yesterday His Exc. Mgr. Hector Eduardo Vargas, Bishop of Temuco, in response to statements made by the Minister of interior, Mario Fernandez, according to whom, inter alia, the region does not need special laws.
The Bishop of Temuco, a region involved entirely in the story of Araucanía, who is also head of the Advisory Commission of the President of the Republic for violence and for a table of dialogue (see Fides 11/08/2016), informed that they asked the Ministry of the Interior for explanations because of his statements. According to note sent to Fides, after a brief meeting with the political authorities, the Bishop informed that the statements made by the Minister are specifically related to the issue of crime and presence of the police. Mgr. Vargas recalled that, in any case, the last word is up to the government.
As the table of dialogue for the Mapuche cause continues, last week thousands of protesters took to the streets to support the Mapuche cause. The demonstration, held in Santiago, ended with acts of violence, 36 were arrested and some policemen were injured. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 17/10/2016)
