Bhopal (Agenzia Fides) - Three Hindu teachers have denounced the leaders of the Christian school of the Holy Trinity School in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, in the diocese of Indore, complaining of "being hurt in their religious sentiments", and organizing a public protest outside the school. The three accuse the institute's administrators, which has about 1,600 students of all religions and 50 teachers, of having removed the portrait of the Hindu goddess Saraswati from the school and for not allowing students to sing Saraswati Vandana, a Hindu devotional song.
The institute's headmaster has rejected all charges and Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), told Fides: "The teachers’ allegations are part of an organized manoeuvre against Christian educational institutions. They want to intimidate the Christian population in the state of Madhya Pradesh by attacking educational Christian institutions".
The protest was supported by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), nationalist student organization affiliated with the Hindu extremist group "Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh" (RSS), which openly promotes a campaign against religious minorities in India. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 14/10/2016)
