San Juan (Agenzia Fides) - "It is time to say no to the historical colonialism that accompanied unjust laws such as the law of "cabotaje", the parties demagogy, lies and opportunism of many leaders", said the long document published yesterday by the Bishops of Puerto Rico on the occasion of the upcoming general election on November 8.
The 10-page-text denounces the historical situation experienced by the country and the risks for the future: "we feel the arrival of a new colonialism based on ideologies and anonymous powers that make us slaves of a global culture that goes against the cultures and traditions of the people.
With Pope Francis we say no to these new forms of colonialism". In conclusion, the Bishops call on the citizens' active participation", remembering that it is a moral duty.
The serious economic and social crisis in the country continues, and its solution depends largely on the decisions of the US Congress (see Fides 20/05/2016, 12/04/2016). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 14/10/2016)
