Tolosa (Agenzia Fides) - The foundation Haurkizuma, made up of people from Tolosa and Mundaka, will support solidarity projects in the area of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. It is a nonprofit association, which integrates with the Fundación Calasanz already present in the Latin American Country. The common goal is to approve concrete projects that establish direct aid to offer an alternative life to defenseless children, welcoming children and offering them an integral education. Santo Domingo is close to Colombia. It is a young city that developed illegally and disproportionately and is home to 500,000 inhabitants. The exploitation of children, abandoned children, women abused, organ, drug trafficking and prostitution are part of the landscape. It is on this difficult territory that the Community of the Piarist Fathers, along with a group of lay people, manage an integral project formed by two schools, a medical dispensary, a shelter for street children, a parish, eradication programs regarding begging and child labor. Objective of the project is the integral attention towards children with scarce resources, as well as to those who have suffered a violation of their rights. The Family House is the spearhead of the project. It is dedicated to the institutional care of children who are in state of total abandonment, without family or home. It is an institutional shelter to children whose parents, by court order, have been deprived of parental rights because accused of violence. In the center there are psychologists, doctors, lawyers and social workers. No criminals, drug users or those who are part of criminal gangs are welcomed. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 13/10/2016)
