Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - The President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, Archbishop of Tunja, His Exc. Mgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, speaking to Radio Caracol highlighted the details of the participation of the Catholic Church in the peace talks between the government and ELN (Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional). "The Church will be present in the public phase of the talks with a committee of five Bishops of the hardest hit territories by the guerrillas, including the Archbishop of Cali, the Bishop of Arauca, Chocó and Tibu", said Mgr. Castro Quiroga, who pointed out : "they prepared themselves for these talks for more than a year".
According to information sent to Fides, the President of the Episcopal Conference said that "the Church will be of support, but not as a delegate or mediator ... Proceed with intelligence, wisdom, and rapidly, so that the peace process with ELN can concentrate on specific points of the agreement and does not become widespread as the peace process with FARC: this is the central goal of the Church". The public phase of the peace process between the national government and ELN begins on October 27 in Caracas (Venezuela). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 12/10/2016)
