AFRICA/GHANA - "It is time for Catholics and Anglicans to join hands to fight the social ills of Ghana" says Anglican Primate of the Province of West Africa

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "It is time for the Anglican Church of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to join hands to fight poverty, child trafficking, climate change and other social ills eating into the fabrics of the Ghanaian society", said in an interview with Agenzia Fides His Exc. Mgr. Daniel Sarfo, Anglican Primate of the Province of West Africa and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Anglican Archdiocese of Kumasi.
Mgr. Sarfo said his archdiocese and the Catholic archdiocese of Kumasi have a very good working relationship which dates back to 1998 when he was consecrated a Bishop. He urged that "it is time for the two churches to share ideas and work together at the national level and to have annual meetings as well". According to the Anglican Primate working together means to fulfill the prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ that all Christians may be one.
"Prayer, witnessing and mission together will bring the two churches together at the service of humanity", he concluded.
Archbishop Sarfo, Bishop Joseph Baawobr of the Catholic diocese of Wa and Bishop Victor Atta-Baffoe of the Anglican diocese of Cape Coast diocese are members of a joint committee established to see to the implementation of the Joint Declaration signed by the Pope Francis and Archbishop Welby on October 5.
