Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - The death toll of the recent outbreak of diarrheal diseases in Sudan continues to increase and medical facilities have difficulties in keeping the situation under control. The most vulnerable sectors of the population are children, young and old people. In Khartoum, the Sudanese Minister of Health has confirmed the deaths of 71 people and the contagion of other 3,771 in the six States of Kassala, El Gedaref, Sennar, El Gezira, Blue Nile and River Nile. In recent days, due to the lack of medicines, some victims were registered among newborn twins in the pediatric hospital. Other deaths and twenty infections were registered in "Village 27" in Um El Ghura, El Gezira State. In El Nahud, West Kordofan, patients crowded the hospital and wards due to the doctors' strike which has been going on for weeks, in addition to the high cost of the surgeries at private hospitals in the city. According to local sources, the most critical cases were transferred to the El Obeyed hospital. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 06/10/2016)
