AMERICA/ECUADOR - “Maria model of holiness for a new society” theme of Marian Symposium 29 - 30 November in Loja

Loja (Fides Service) - To revive devotion to Mary, which has waned in many sectors of society, among intellectuals in particular, and as part of celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the crowning of Our Lady of Cisne, patroness of the city and province, the diocese of Loja and the Loja Special Technical University UTPL, have organised a Marian Symposium on the theme “Mary model of holiness for a new society”. The aim is to reflect on the figure of Mary, as mother, teacher and model in order to encourage love and devotion to Mary who can guide individuals and cultures towards holiness.
The Symposium to be held 29 and 30 November at UTLP Congress Centre is open to anyone interested in the theme. Participants will include bishops, clergy, men and women religious, teachers and students of national and foreign universities, delegates for university pastoral care, representatives of church movements and young people. Among the speakers, Bishop Julio Terán Dutari of Ibarra president of the Ecuadorian Bishops’ Commission for Education and Culture; José Orlando Reyes, theologian and expert in Mariology a teacher at the Xaverian University of Colombia; José Barnosa, UTPL vice chancellor.
