Bangkok (Agenzia Fides) - After the cases of zika in Brazil (that had denounced a tragic surge of malformations in fetuses) and in Africa, America and Europe, the alarm also grows in Southeast Asia. In particular in Thailand, where local authorities have recorded the the first Zika-linked microcephaly. This is the first case identified in Southeast Asia. The first outbreak of Zika, outside of Africa, dates back to 2007 on the island of Yap in Micronesia. Then the alarm in Texas, where a case was reported due to sexual transmission. Italy has registered ten cases of Zika so far, all travelers who had contracted the virus abroad. According to researchers, the virus is now to be added to the long list of other infections such as rubella, toxoplasmosis, syphilis, cytomegalovirus, HIV and herpes.
