New Delhi (Agenzia Fides) - On September 20 a prayer for peace will be held in churches and Catholic communities in India, in communion with Pope Francis, who will take part in a meeting in Assisi entitled: "Thirst for Peace. Religions and Cultures in Dialogue", organized by the Sant’Egidio Community, the Franciscan Family and the diocese of Assisi. As reported to Fides by Sister Teresa Joseph Fma, Secretary of the Office for Dialogue and Ecumenism of the Bishops' Conference of India a program for a prayer vigil for peace was distributed to all the communities.
"We will start with a hymn, attributed to St. Francis, 'God, make me an instrument of your peace', and will be a prayer open to all" refers to Fides Sister Teresa. "The Indian communities will pray for Pope Francis – she continued – so that his constant appeal to end wars and become messengers of peace may be welcomed by humanity. And for his meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew I and other religious leaders, so that it can bear abundant fruit".
"It is important that the leaders of various Christian Churches and various religions make every effort to build peace and harmony in the world, opening itself to mutual respect and guiding humanity to peaceful coexistence" emphasizes the religious.
A special thought is addressed to Archbishop Felix Machado and other Indian nationals who are in Assisi: "May the Lord strengthen them to continue to work for peace in India, where it is much needed. We thank God so that he illuminates the hearts of people of all religions, we are committed in favor of integration and inclusion, which is the key to eradicate violence from Indian society".
