Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - A religious network to promote peace in Africa through dialogue has been launched. This is what was announced in Nairobi, Kenya, at the end of a three-day conference organized by Missio-Aachen and Tangaza University College (TUC), Catholic University of Nairobi, through its Department of Islamic Studies.
The "Missio-Network African Theology" will have the aim, according to Mark Moerschbacher of Missio-Aachen, to "widen the reflection on the issue of religion and violence and the contribution of religions to dialogue and peace".
The President of the TUC, Fr. Steven Payne, recalled that "from its beginnings 30 years ago, Tangaza has always looked for opportunities to reach out to the larger society, and to foster peace-building".
"Down through the centuries, wars have been fought and terrible devastation inflicted in the name of religion", stressed Fr. Payne. "Some claim that the exclusivism of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) is itself the root cause of much of the violence". And it is here that the new initiative is to go and check, and try to make a contribution to peace offering a correct interpretation of the Sacred Scriptures. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 13/09/2016)
