Cuzco (Agenzia Fides) - Even thousands of kilometers from Rome, on Sunday, September 4, the day when Mother Teresa was proclaimed a saint by Pope Francis in the Vatican, a big feast was celebrated in Cuzco, Peru. Before numerous civil and religious authorities, His Exc. Mgr. Richard Daniel Alarcón Urrutia, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cusco, celebrated the Mass of thanksgiving for the canonization of Mother Teresa, which was concelebrated by priests of the Archdiocese.
The Sisters of the "Hogar Mother Teresa of Calcutta" house, were in the front row also with all the sick and those who are assisted in this house.
Mgr. Alarcón Urrutia, in his homily, asked the entire population to follow the footsteps of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now Saint, particularly in this Year of Mercy, through the works of mercy. "She embodies the language of the Gospel and, through Her, God asks us to embody the language of the Gospel, with simple and pure attitudes of love, eliminating ambition, interest and evil". The Archbishop said: "Imitate the love and mercy of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, she embraced the marginalized by society, loved everyone, especially the poorest of the poor". After the Mass there was a procession and the veneration of the relics and the image of Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
In Peru there are "Houses of Mother Teresa" in Lima, Juli, Cuzco and Chimbote. In Cuzco Sister Mary Prema, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, went on a visit in 2012. This home welcomes more than 40 people, including children, youth and elderly people. Here, the Missionaries of Charity take care of mentally disabled women and some elderly homeless men.
