Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - During the commemoration of the 197 years of the national army, His Exc. Mgr. Fabio Suescun said that Colombians want a change towards a Colombia at peace, where children and farmers should be protected as the country's resources.
After a prayer in front of the troops, he said "we want things to be different, no more deaths, no more victims due to landmines in our country, no more bloodshed".
"We want Lord, a country in which children can play, can go to school, where farmers can cultivate their land", the bishop said during the prayer.
The prayer during yesterday's celebration, Sunday, August 7, was organized for the military who intend to "clean up" many areas of the country where there are explosives which are hidden to stop and kill armed groups because of the internal conflict.
There is no exact figure of those killed or wounded by landmines, but it has always been a very risky task for the military to try to defuse these bombs because of the very rugged land. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 08/08/2016)
