New Delhi (Agenzia Fides) - Some unidentified persons tried to set fire to a church belonging to the Protestant Indian community, "Church of South India", in the Indian state of Karnataka. As Fides learns, the attempted fire with kerosene poured on the door and in other parts of the building, took place in the early morning hours of July 14. The flames burned the door of the church, causing damage, fortunately not serious. The police, called by the local faithful, is looking into the matter. Sajan K George, President of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), speaking to Fides strongly condemned the attempt of arson that "is a clear attack on the church", noting "the alarm and fear for the Christian community, very vulnerable and subjected to constant intimidation and violence, especially in some Indian states like Karnataka".
