Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – On the occasion of a recent round table set up by Mexican authorities for Child Labour Prevention, found that the phenomenon, which affects about 90,000 children in Mexico City, is particularly linked to the socio-economic problems of their families. In fact, the wages of so many parents is not sufficient to maintain the family and the young are forced to contribute to the expenses. According to the information sent to Fides, the youth begin to work from an early age to help their families, many do so voluntarily, others are forced, and in any case they leave school. 50% of working children are engaged in commercial activities, mainly on the streets or in the transport system. Unfortunately there are organized criminal groups that exploit children in areas where there are restaurants or where there is more traffic, exposing them as cripples so they can beg.
