Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - "Dear migrants and refugees, never lose the hope that you too are facing a more secure future, that on your journey you will encounter an outstretched hand, and that you can experience fraternal solidarity and the warmth of friendship", urged His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Alessandro, Bishop of Garissa - the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – Commission for Refugees, Seafarers and Migrants Chairman, during a meeting with the refugees at the at Devine Word Parish, in Kayole, Nairobi, on the occasion of World refugee Day.
Addressing the refugees from Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mgr. Alessandro pointed out: "You have a special place in the heart of the Church, and you help the Church to enlarge her heart to manifest her motherhood towards the entire human family".
Mgr. Alessandro wanted to therefore reassure the refugees that the Church is near them in a moment when the government in Nairobi threatened the closure of the camp in Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world (see Fides 20/05/2016). The Bishop stressed that the control of migration policies of Kenya must be guided by a concern for all people, mercy and justice. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 02/07/2016)
