Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - A Coptic priest, Fr. Rafael Moussa, was killed in Al Arish in the north of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, in an attack claimed by the local branch of the Islamic State. The murder took place on June 30, on the third anniversary of the demonstrations against the then President Mohamed Morsi, which resulted in his deposition on July 3 and the seizure of power of the current Head of the State, the then Minister of Defense, Abdel Fatah to Sisi.
"Fr. Moussa, 46, of Mar Girgis church in el Arish, was killed by blows of a firearm while he was returning home after Mass", says a statement from the Egyptian Coptic Church. "The Coptic Orthodox Church with Pope Twadros presents its condolences to the martyr's family and condemns all acts of terrorism that threaten the security of the homeland and have the aim of dividing his children. May God protect Egypt from any danger".
In the same place another Coptic priest Fr. Mina Aboud had been killed on July 2013 (see Fides 08/07/2013). (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 02/07/2016)
