AMERICA/CANADA - “Love is given to us that our Gift may be Love”: “breath of mission” blows from coast to coast across Canada thanks to Pontifical Mission Societies

Monday, 31 October 2005

Quebec (Fides Service ) - World Mission Sunday 2005, October 23 was widely celebrated in Canada, the national Canada/Quebec office of the Pontifical Mission Societies reported. Parishes in French speaking Canada prepared with enthusiasm for the annual Day which focused this year on the theme “Love is given to us that our Gift may be Love”. In Quebec more than thirty different ethnic communities gathered to celebrate the annual event. Mgr Gilles Lemay, a missionary in Paraguay for many years presided a Mass broadcast on national television. In Montreal Catholics from Democratic Congo invited about 15 different ethnic communities to share a lively two hour Mass very different from the usual Masses celebrated in Canada. Elsewhere in Canada Mission Sunday was prepared with conferences, meetings and days of animation to help newly baptised Catholics realise their responsibility to take part in the work of evangelising the world. Thanks to the work of the Pontifical Mission Societies the “breath of mission” blew from one side of Canada to the other. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 31/10/2005 - Righe 14; Parole 190)
