Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - "It is impossible to deny the serious crisis and prevent the arrival of food and medicine from other parts of the world, sent by various non-governmental organizations and Church organizations such as Caritas": this is what the Archbishop of Caracas, Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino denounces, who speaking to the local press criticized the Venezuelan government because it refuses to accept humanitarian aid with the clear purpose of not showing the serious crisis in the country.
According to information sent to Fides, the Cardinal stressed that the situation is deteriorating, and added that the government of Maduro should ensure that the OAS (Organization of American States) activates the "Democratic Charter" Interamericana, which means to enable international aid to solve an emergency situation before a terrible food and health crises.
Less than a week ago, the National Assembly passed a law to address the health problem created by the shortage of medicines, as well as requesting the support of international humanitarian organizations that had already offered to send food and medicine. But at the request of President Maduro, the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) issued a ruling that overturned that law, because according to the TSJ usurps presidential functions.
